Head of CSR and Sustainability Middle East & Africa
Jérôme Ponrouch is Head of CSR and Sustainability for the Middle East and Africa region, contributing to BNP Paribas’ expansion in the Sustainable Finance space.
Jérôme reports hierarchically to Jacques Michel – Head of the Middle East & Africa region - and functionally to Constance Chalchat - Head of CIB Company Engagement - in a position set up to develop business with corporate and institutional clients who are transitioning towards more sustainable practices and who seek sustainable financing and investments. He is responsible for delivering a clear understanding of investor demand for sustainability and enabling the bank’s Originate and Distribute endeavors. His responsibilities include assistance to Coverage and business lines; raising internal and external awareness; and developing knowledge and expertise connected with corporate social responsibility (CSR). This role is part of BNP Paribas’ global efforts to advance the sustainability agenda in close coordination with the bank’s CSR resources worldwide.
Jérôme has 20 years of client relationship management and business origination experience in different parts of the world - France, Italy, Asia Pacific and the Americas. He has led and coordinated various teams across BNP Paribas Group’s diverse products and services universe.
In New York, since 2016, he has spearheaded BNP Paribas’ efforts to build a commercial strategy with Financial Institutions and to support these clients’ ambitions to grow sustainably, contributing to CSR Americas’ plans and to BNP Paribas Company Engagement.
Jérôme Ponrouch began his career with BNP Paribas in Paris in 1991 as a corporate credit analyst. After positions in Global Markets Fixed Income in sales and the “Inspection Generale”, he joined the newly created Financial Institutions Client Coverage team in 2000. He was appointed Deputy Head of FIC for BNP Paribas Italy in 2004. In 2008, he relocated to Hong Kong to build the Bank’s franchise with the insurance sector, an important source of growth for BNP Paribas in Asia Pacific. Between 2014 and 2019, while based in New York, Jérôme fostered BNP Paribas’ business and institutional relationships with key multinationals among banks, insurers and asset managers.
Jérôme graduated from Université Claude Bernard, Lyon, France, in 1986 and EDHEC Business School in Lille, France, in 1989.
