Alexander Stevens

Biography

Alexander Stevens is the founder and CEO of Greenomy, an international, user-owned ESG market infrastructure. Greenomy is a sustainability reporting software that codifies emerging green finance taxonomies that are being adopted worldwide and pursues the ultimate objective of facilitating the redirection of capital toward sustainable activities, thus accelerating the transition to a climate-neutral economy in line with the objectives of the EU Green Deal.

Alexander graduated in law from the University of Brussels, obtained a Master of Law and Finance from Oxford University, and a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School. A New York Bar attorney, he previously worked at Cravath Swaine & Moore LLP, as well as the European Commission. Alexander also completed the Cambridge Sustainable Finance Certificate, is an appointed expert of EFRAG, and is frequently invited to speak at conferences around the world on the topics of sustainable finance and digitisation.

Since he understood that the 600 pages of the EU Taxonomy were burdensome for companies and financial institutions to digest, Alexander decided to join the digital revolution, by pragmatically participating in the implementation of the EU Taxonomy through the medium of technology. His principal objective is to digitise “green compliance”, in order to make it mainstream and therefore provide financial market participants with the tools they need to proactively contribute to sustainable finance goals.

Alexander is a General Partner of Amal Ventures, a venture capital fund that supports GreenTech innovations. The main objective of the fund is to help lay the foundation for a sustainable future, by investing in disruptive startups operating in strategic economic sectors that are most impacted by the EU Green Taxonomy. Alex contributes significantly to raising funds, deploying capital, and efficiently advising over 15 startups in Europe, injecting them with his knowledge of the sector, his network with European financial institutions and large corporations, and ensuring that they apply the best management and financial practices from an early stage.

Furthermore, Alexander is also a board member of Fondation Vocatio, a charity awarding scholarships to young talented Belgian scholars in the arts and science fields. Every year, Alex works with the Foundation to offer 20 scholarships of 10,000 euros to young academics to support the cultivation of their goals and life ambitions. These scholarships function as a springboard for young people, providing them with the agency to make constructive changes in driving their career goals, for example by enrolling in study courses, acquiring needed equipment, or developing new techniques.

In his free time, Alexander enjoys hiking, travelling, and supporting green technologies.
