Agnes Belaisch

Biography

Agnès has 25 years of experience working in economics and finance. She has held various positions in both the public and private sectors. In particular, she spent 10 years at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC providing economic advice to governments in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. She also worked as a fixed-income fund manager and strategist in London and, when the European debt crisis brought governments close to default, she was called to help set up the European Stability Mechanism, the euro area intergovernmental bailout fund that provided financial support to Ireland, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus. She managed negotiations with Greece and Spain as official loans were associated with economic conditionality. She became interested in the topic of sustainable finance and wrote a paper published at the London School of Economics on the design of impact investments, a type of investment that aims to deliver both a market return and a social or environmental impact. She is now a Managing Director at Barings, working on a variety of topics ranging from economic analysis to responsible finance. Agnès holds a PhD in Economics from New York University.
